Install gabions in three steps
Step 1: Organize and assemble the gabions. Start by laying out the gabion baskets along with any extra accessories such as lacing wires, spacers, or geotextile fabric according to installation plan. Then, use a hammer or other tools to connect the mesh panels at each corner of the structure.
Step 2: Place the rock fill. It is important to place the rock fill inside the gabion structure in an even manner. Depending on the size of rock fill, you may need to shovel it or use a wheelbarrow to distribute the material.
Step 3: Cover the gabion structure with a geotextile fabric. The fabric should be placed around the entire structure, and then fastened using different methods such as tying, stapling, or tucking. This will help prevent erosion and protect the underlying rock fill material from the elements.

When packing gabion boxes for sea freight, one should: clean and inspect them for damages or sharp edges; securely stack and interlock them to create a stable load; use high-quality strapping bands or steel wires to tightly bind them; place wooden dunnage between layers to prevent movement and provide stability; cover them with a waterproof tarp or shrink-wrap to protect from moisture.
